Apple add safari on the automatic update on windows

I’m outraged! I hate iTunes but i hate more Safari. That browser is not even rendering page correctly on Windows and what i found this morning.. They put safari as a push on the automatically updates from apple software. What will happen? people that only have quicktime will be asked to install safari without knowing what it is! That is the same with iTunes but PC people already know iTunes.

What’s next? Safari will open after the install and ask the user if he wants safari as the default browser?

Anyway, people have to know that Safari Sucks big times and Mozilla firefox is The Browser of choice.

My two cents.

  1. I agree on the fact that the reason I hate quicktime is that it comes bundled with ITunes and to find the solo intallation is a pain. Seeing how Microsoft gets bashed about monopolistic behavior in Europe I find it strange that nothing has been done about Apple’s marketing policy. (Please correct me if i’m wrong)

Now what I don’t agree about the bashing of Safari. Safari was the among the first to pass ACID 2 (Opera folowing shortly thereafter). It is still succeeds at passing the test under Mac OSX, why not wait until many users can use it and report the bug. Isn’t one of the reason why FireFox is such an neat piece of software because poeple used it when it was still buggy and made comments on how to improve it?

Well I’m an Opera Junky, it answers all my needs from the first minutes I installed it and brought many improvements in the way poeple use a browser. Since this is a PowerUser forum I will agree that the tools on FireFox for web debugging are much more advanced than Opera’s but how many poeple needs it? Every now and then I try FireFox and IE just to see their new features and how they respond to my needs, now I will be able to do the same with Safari. Isn’t this kind of choice at the very core of OSS?

As a last comment, let Safari be known in the Windows world and let the poeple decide if they like it or not. BUT don’t bundle it like Apple is doing with quicktime and ITunes.

  2. I agree with you. I don’t like the way companies are pushing their softwares.

  3. You should give safari a bit more credit, although firefox does rain supreme safari is a decent browser, and websites that do not render correctly in it are broken sites. Its not usually the browser in that case.

I think apple is pushing it because it allows you to update all your apple sofware in one location. They are not ramming the software down your throat. Just offering it. I think in some cases it may be required to install quicktime because the 2 applications share some libraries
